Honorable Mustapha Ussif has announced that Ghana has invested almost $200 million in sports infrastructure.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the just-ended 13th African Games says it did not promise the volunteers for the games any monetary compensation.

This follows agitation by the Volunteers in demanding cash after the games.

Some of the volunteers reportedly have to hold the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif hostage at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday over the delay in paying them their compensations.

Speaking on radio a member of the Volunteers LOC Sub-committee, Dalali Awutey expressed shock over the way and manner the volunteers were handling the issue.

“I believe there could have been a nicer for us to have this conversation. If the people at the top go by the law they would have easily said they won’t pay anything. Because in the letter there was no statement that says after the end of the games we are going to give you an X amount of money.

“However, the committee and its members, individuals, and the LOC understand the work that the volunteers put in for the games,” Mr. Awutey stated.

He continued: “Yesterday I spent the whole day at the LOC because the LOC has made available extra T-shirts to give to the volunteers as souvenirs just for me to hear that while on that. There was another chaos at the camp where they are holding the Sports Minister hostage.”
