African great, Karim Abdul Razak is popularly known as “Golden Boy” has expressed his displeasure over the sidelining of old players around the various national teams by the Ghana football association.
The 1978 African footballer of the year related the sorry situation to favoritism at the FA.
“Other countries celebrate us for our immense contribution to football but our own country looks down upon us for no tangible reason”. He told Kumasi-based Fox FM.
The Kumasi Asante Kotoko legend also vilified club administrators for their failure to involve their respective old players in the affairs of the clubs.
He said “Clubs in other countries like Nigeria involve their legends in their CAF inter-club competitions trips just to motivate the current crop of players but in Ghana is sad to say that we are not accorded that respect”
Golden Boy Abdul Razak was an integral member of the 1978 Ghana AFCON winning team to the extent of emerging as the best player in that particular tournament.
He played for Asante Kotoko in Ghana, New York Cosmos in the USA, Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, Arab contractors in Egypt, and Africa sports in Ivory Coast.
As a manager, he coached Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dragons de l’Ouémé in Benin and Stade Malien in Mali.
