Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 24-man Black Stars squad for the upcoming international window, as the team prepares to begin its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
The squad, scheduled for the period from September 24 to October 4, 2026, combines experienced internationals, returning players and emerging talents. Mohammed Kudus returns to the national team after missing Ghana’s previous major international assignment, while Jan Gyamerah and Ronald Donkor have received their maiden senior Black Stars call-ups.
The goalkeeping department comprises Benjamin Asare of Hearts of Oak, Lawrence Ati-Zigi of St. Gallen and Joseph Anang of St. Patrick’s Athletic.
In defence, Queiroz has selected Gideon Mensah, Baba Rahman, Jan Gyamerah, Derrick Luckassen, Nathaniel Adjei, Jerome Opoku, Kojo Oppong Peprah and Alexander Djiku.
Nathaniel Adjei returns to the national-team setup after a period away, while Gyamerah earns his first call-up following his performances for German club SV Elversberg.
The midfield contingent includes Kwasi Sibo, Caleb Yirenkyi, Augustine Boakye, Ronald Donkor and Ibrahim Sulemana.
Donkor’s inclusion follows a series of impressive performances for New York Red Bulls, including scoring in the club’s 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew earlier this month.
The attacking options are Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ernest Nuamah, Mohammed Kudus, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, Ibrahim Osman, Prince Adu Kwabena and captain Jordan Ayew.
Ghana is scheduled to open its 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29.
The Black Stars will then travel to Tangier, Morocco, to face the host nation in an international friendly on October 4.
The friendly is expected to provide Queiroz with another opportunity to assess his players after the two competitive AFCON qualifying matches.
The Ghana Football Association has retained Queiroz to lead the Black Stars in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign following his initial spell in charge.
With a blend of established internationals and new faces, the Black Stars will now begin preparations for the busy international window as Ghana starts its campaign towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
