Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to defeat Croatia and finish top of Group L at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, following their goalless draw against England.
Sibo, who started in midfield during Ghana’s disciplined 0-0 draw against England at the Gillette Stadium, said the team had fully executed the tactical instructions of Head Coach Carlos Queiroz. He noted that the players remained compact, fought for one another throughout the match and maintained a strong mentality against one of the tournament’s favourites. “We listened to him, followed his instructions and did the job for him,” Sibo told ghanafa.org.
The 26-year-old Real Oviedo midfielder said the Black Stars were determined to claim all three points against Croatia and secure top spot in the group. “I just believe that we’re going to take all three points. We want to be leaders in the group and we are not looking back,” he said, adding that the encounter was crucial for the nation after Ghana narrowly missed an opportunity to beat England.
Sibo thanked God for the opportunity to represent Ghana, stressing that he would always give his best whenever called upon. He described the draw against England as a reward for the team’s hard work and commitment to the coach’s game plan, while expressing optimism that the Black Stars would continue their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Reflecting on his return to the starting line-up after missing out against Panama, Sibo said he always prioritised the team’s success over individual recognition. He noted that every player in the squad was capable of contributing and pledged to remain available whenever needed by the technical team.
Sibo also praised captain Thomas Partey for his leadership and experience, saying the Arsenal midfielder had been an important influence on the younger players. He said training and playing alongside Partey had helped him improve, adding that the squad rallied behind the captain to remain focused and lead the team against England.
