Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has parted ways with Head Coach Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey following the club’s elimination from the MTN FA Cup competition.

The decision comes after Kotoko suffered a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat to Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday after a goalless draw in regulation time.

The defeat sparked strong reactions from supporters, with pressure mounting on the technical team.

In an official statement issued by the club, Kotoko announced that Coach Zito had resigned from his position with immediate effect.

“Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as the head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect,” the statement said.

It added that management had accepted the resignation and expressed appreciation to the coach for his services.

“Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future,” it noted.

Kotoko said a new technical direction for the club would be communicated in due course.

The Porcupine Warriors are scheduled to host rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash on Sunday in Kumasi.
