The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has made new reforms to the format of the World Cup, effective from 2026 which will be held in Canada, the U.S.A and Mexico.
The changes include the expansion of teams that will participate in the tournament, a total of 48 teams will have the slot for the first time, as it moves from its already existing number of 32.
However, the changes mean the number of games will be increased from 64 to 104 consisting of 12 groups of four countries each.
The top two teams from each group will proceed to the round of 32 with the 8 best third-place teams.
Thus, the knockout stage starts from the round of 32 to the round of 15, through to the Quarterfinals, to Semis and the Finals.
