After 16 matches in the 2020/2021 English Premier League, the title race is beginning to shape up nicely. Just a point separates first, second and third. Chelsea lost a slender grip on first place after a 3-2 defeat to the Hammers in London.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City who were just behind the league leaders recorded wins over Watford and Wolves respectively putting them ahead of the London club.

All three teams head into Game week 16 in search of a win to keep up with each other. Manchester City kicked off game week 16 against Wolves at the Etihad stadium. All was dull and very much in the balance until Wolves striker Raul Jimenez was booked twice in 31 seconds which had him sent off for a foul on Rodri and time wasting. The visitors hung on to end the half goalless. Raheem Sterling’s 66nd penalty and 100th league goal earned City all three points.

Liverpool were against their club legend Steven Gerrad’s Aston Villa. The Legend was warmly received at Antfield. Liverpool dominated the game but found it difficult to penetrate the Villa defense until Salah was fouled by Tyrone Mings resulting in a penalty.

The penalty was well taken by the highest goal scorer in the league so far to hand all three points to Liverpool.

The last of the title contenders welcomed Leeds at the Stamford Bridge. The visitors struck first in the 28th minute of the match to give themselves an early lead. Chelsea responded through a Mason Mount goal three minutes before the first half. The second penalty of the game was awarded to Chelsea which was slotted home by Jorginho to give the home team the lead in the 58th minute. 19 year old Leeds midfielder Joe Gelhardt brought the visitors back level after converting a cross a few seconds after being introduced (talk about instant impact). With the match in the balance, it looked to be a draw until a deep second stoppage penalty was awarded to Chelsea.

Indeed the title race is on and it’s looks to be A THREE HORSE RACE.
