In a letter addressed to the Ghana Football Association, CAF has disapproved Baba Yara stadium from hosting international matches ahead of AFCON 2023 qualifiers citing poor standards of the facility.

It would be recalled that FIFA approved Baba Yara stadium in March for a one-match to host 1st leg of 2022 world cup qualifying playoff between Ghana and Nigeria after an inspection by CAF officials.

National Sports Authority boss, Professor Peter Twumasi through his Facebook handle debunked the letter released by the GFA that it’s stadia have been rejected by CAF.

“The National Sports Authority (NSA) wishes to debunk reports going round that it’s stadia have been rejected by CAF after visits. NSA is waiting on GFA request as to which stadia they intend to use for their CAF matches. Such communication hasn’t been received yet and therefore no CAF inspection in our facilities recently for CAF matches this season” he said.

It is instructive to note that per conditions stated in CAF letter on 16th March, 2022 before Ghana vs Nigeria (played on 25th March, 2022) to be relocated from Cape Coast. Baba Yara stadium was approved for one-match and to immediately and automatically removed from CAF list after the match, and that Ghana is to invite CAF later for a thorough assessment and eventual certification like all others” he added.

The GFA communication director, Henry Asante Twum has vilified the NSA for doing a shoddy job in it’s renovation of the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

“I have problem when leaders occupying positions fail to be submissive and admit their flaws. Let’s be honest, the NSA did a shoddy job in it’s renovation of the stadium” he told Light FM

“You gave the stadium renovation contract to a contractor and he did it anyhow without meeting the needed standards” he added.

“When players arrive at the stadium, they should be saved from supporters intimidation, Do we have a safe zone at the Baba Yara stadium for players? he quizzed.

“The 19 requirements used to disapprove Baba Yara wasn’t created by the GFA but base on CAF inspection. What is Prof Twumasi talking about, they should be truthful to the public. We sent NSA a copy of the CAF letter about two weeks ago, Prof Twumasi was angry at GFA general secretary for releasing the letter publicly”

“Let’s be honest, NSA did a shoddy job” he reiterated.
