It’s Going To Be Tough – Antoine Semenyo On Upcoming AFCON

The third game in the 2024 AFCON qualifiers was underway as four-time Champions, The Blackstar’s of Ghana faced the Palancas Negras of Angola with both teams on four points each, a win was very vital after the Central African Republic recorded a win over Madagascar earlier today.

The game saw many Ghanaians moving to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as they massively welcomed the Blackstars after the appointment of Chris Hughton and the inclusion of some new players.

The away team settled from the blast of the whistles, leaving the home team struggling to string some passes together. However, the home team came into the party halfway into the first half, giving them a rhythm flow as Ghanaians were hopeful to end the first half with a goal, but both teams had no goal to their credit after 45 minutes of action.

The second half was underway as the Angolans started well on a strong foot leaving the home team frustrated. A quick substitution from the home team coach, Chris Hughton, saw Joseph Painstil, Antoine Semenyo and Abdul Salis changing play for the Blackstars. The time kept ticking as the stoppage time of the game was due, an additional time of 6 was added which saw the fans at Baba Yara chanting a sign of hope as they believed in a last-minute miracle.

It was down to the last chance of the game after Mohammed Kudu’s powerful free-kick cross was interrupted and a last strike from Antoine Semenyo gave the home team relief after recording the only goal in the game, keeping the home grounds of the team a fortress.

The Blackstars will visit Angola away from home on Monday, 27th March 2023.
