Football attendance in Ghana has been one of the major problems. The numbers in the various stadia keep decreasing from time to time which has caused a lot of people to question what the issue might be.

Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong has urged club owners and football stakeholders to reduce the gate fees at the various stadiums, in other to attract them to the stadium. According to Mr Agyapong, he believes people who show much interest in football are not well and such, we need to put in good measure in ensuring the fees for the various match tickets are affordable, he told Kumasi-based station Kessben TV.

“People who don’t have enough are the ones who follow football. Things are tough, even transportation is not easy. If the person goes to the stadium, he or she has to eat as well.

If you take anything more than GHC10, he won’t go. It is better if you charge less and have more at the stadium.

The other time I was telling my Kotoko people, there is a stadium with a 50,000 capacity, for me, I will charge GHC5 and get 50,000 people at the stadium and accrue GHC250,000 then charge GHC20 and get only 1000 people at the stadium and accrue GHC20,000.

When the stadium is full of that atmosphere and excitement, It makes football indeed football. Let’s reduce the gate fees and promote the games well” – he said.
