It was a titanic clash on new year day between second-placed Aduana Stars and league leaders Asante Kotoko at Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa.

The 23-time champions were tipped as underdogs in this match because of their zero-victory record in the league at Dormaa and their round of 64 exits in the mtn FA cup against King Faisal at the Baba Yara sports stadium earlier on.

Aduana Stars started well by creating all necessary goal-scoring chances up front but failed to connect a goal in the early minutes of the game.

The Porcupine warriors came into the game strongly after finding their rhythm and took the lead in the 19th minute through George Mfegue’s classic header which beat helpless Joseph Addo in post.

Coach Asare Bediako came into the 2nd half with his attacking approach but Prosper Nartey Ogum didn’t sit back, he kept attacking and eventually doubled the scores through Richmond Lamptey in the 91st minute.

Two goals at the fortress Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa was enough to hand Kotoko their first three maximum points against Aduana Stars.

The Ghanaian giants are still leading the league log with 23 points and will prepare for an Ashanti derby against AshantiGold at Baba Yara sports stadium while Aduana Stars play as a guest to Elmina Sharks at Nduom sports stadium on Sunday, January 9th.
