Reaching the apex of career as a young footballer isn’t easy due to poor football development by authorities in the country we find ourselves.

I see these young footballers displaying their God-giving talents on various town parks, popularly known as “Sakora” park which are full of stones and gravels and I nod my head to sympathize with them on their struggles they will go through before realizing their dreams.

Life of girl footballers in Ghana are worse, the discouragement, insults and isolation from family and friends to find something better doing in life and leave the football for boys/men because they are better suited to play football. If you don’t have that mental toughness to encourage yourself consistently then is possible to fall for such “primitive” perception in our part of the world.

Young Doris Asiamah’s development or rise as a footballer isn’t an exception from struggles, discouragement and insults from families and the society at large.

Growing up in Nyinahin in Atwima Mponua district of Ashanti region, pushing for a football career as a girl in such a town wasn’t easy because of lack of women football team and availability of town parks to train on.

According to Doris “Growing up in Nyinahin, a town in Kumasi, where people say the only place football can take you is Nkawie (Another town in Kumasi)”

“I wasn’t discouraged by these words instead I kept working hard towards my dream of becoming a professional footballer” she added.

As a student at Aduman Senior High School from 2010-13, she kept herself busy in the school women team which was one of the best women school team in Ashanti region. Doris featured and played regularly in the Ashanti region inter schools and colleges women ritual tournament at Baba Yara sports stadium and was always a delight to watch as a standing number 10 through her defense splitting passes and goal scoring abilities.

Signed by Accra based Rock ladies football club where she developed massively by scoring and assisting regularly as a quality number 10 which earned her a call up to National U17, Black maidens team.

At age 19, it is no surprise that he features in the National U20, Black Princesses team consistently.

On December 10, 2021, Doris Asiamah realized her dream by signing her first professional contract with Turkish women top flight side Rizespor football club in the Turkish women super liga.
