Arsenal welcomed League one side Sunderland FC to the Emirates to battle it out for a spot in the Semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. With the defending Champions and favorites to win the trophy Manchester City out, it is anyone’s game.

Eight changes to the side that beat Leeds. Ramsdale got his much needed rest with Leno taking the post. White was paired with Holding along with Cedric and Tavares. Odegarrd and Emile Smith Rowe were few of the starters giving the nod ahead of this fixture.

Still holding up their title as one of the teams with an impressive start to games, Arsenal were insistent and aggressive in the first 27 minutes and had 2 goals scored by Eddie Nketiah and Nicolas Pepe to set the ball rolling. The goals sparked the visitors to life as they mounted pressure. Persistence was successful, a 31st minute goal by Broadhead brought the first half to an exciting end.

The hosts took control of the 2nd half exerting their dominance and showcasing their superiority. Another 2 goals within 9 minutes killed the Sunderland spirits. Charlie Patino came on in the 80th minute for a home debut. A talent on the must watch list, he didn’t disappoint as he turned home a Pepe cross to seal the win.

The Gunners are the first semi-finalists of the Carabao Cup. Onwards they march. Leicester City, Chelsea, Brentford, Tottenham Hotspurs, Liverpool and West Ham are all in action later on. Six teams and three spots. Which three teams join Arsenal in the Semi-finals?
