Integrity is basically having strong moral principles therefore any firm or institution that work in accordance with it, is capable of reaching its set target.

FIFA as a football governing body frowns on corruption and fixed matches due to their frequent mantra “Fair Play” and would not be charitable on any member who go contrary to their integrity standards.

Ghana is engulfed with pool of football talents but the headache baffling domestic football in the West African football powerhouse is alleged rampant fixed matches.

The current GFA administration led by Kurt Simeone Okraku introduced a GFA integrity and compliance unit to help curb or minimize “naked” fixed matches and corruption in the elite league. This decision was welcomed by pundits and other football enthusiasts as positive move but it seems those driving that integrity unit are sleeping on the job or deliberately condoning corruption and fixed matches in the system.

In the 2020/21 Ghana premier league, a bizarre incident was witnessed in match day 34 encounter between AshantiGold and Inter Allies at the Obuasi Len clay sports stadium, where a player involved in that match confirmed the result of the game was decided and to prevent the ‘correct score’ of the result from materializing, he intentionally scored an own goal.

The GFA in a quick release right after the “ugly” match, assured the public of a swift investigation of the match and anyone found culpable won’t be treated with kid gloves.

A new season is ongoing and the 2021/22 Ghana premier league has reached its 10th week and it seems the so called investigation on that ugly match at Obuasi has stopped and those actors of the alleged fixed match will go unpunished.

Prior to 2021/22 MTN FA cup match day 64 game between Aduana Stars and Techiman XI Wonders, there was an alleged 4-1 ‘correct score’ result of the match and it materialized after the game at Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa.

Today, Berekum Chelsea is hosting Unity fc at Berekum Golden city park in MTNFA cup round of 64 and the ‘sleeping’ GFA integrity and compliance unit has released a prior statement on the game that, series of intelligence have been gathered hence a warning to the participating teams.

Full statement of GFA integrity and compliance unit is as follows:

The Compliance and Integrity Unit of the Ghana Football Association in collaboration with FIFA Integrity through Sport Radars Fraud Detection System (FDS), will be monitoring some selected matches in the MTN FA Cup and League matches this week starting from today’s game between Unity FC and Berekum Chelsea FC at the Golden City Park.

This follows series of intelligence picked up by the GFA Compliance and Integrity Unit.

In as much as the GFA believes in the sporting integrity of the clubs, the Association wishes to send a strong warning to all clubs that a Monitoring Team have been deployed to the match and should there be an establishment of a possible match fixing, the GFA trigger its disciplinary and ethics mechanism.

The Monitoring Mechanism have been deployed for other selected matches in the Round of 64 of the MTN FA Cup competition and the weekend League matches.

Club management members, coaches and players are kindly reminded of their responsibilities in upholding the hard earned sporting integrity of the sport and are entreated to resist any attempt by fake betting syndicates and to report any form of approach or whatsoever immediately to the GFA.

The GFA wishes to also assure all sporting public and stakeholders that it wouldn’t relent on its effort to uphold the very sporting integrity that binds the beautiful game in the country.

The membership of the GFA, Match Officials, the public and all stakeholders are hereby encouraged to channel any information or concerns in this respect, if any, in relation to any match to the Compliance and Integrity Unit on hotline: +233 59 337 1735 a and send all emails to Integrity@ghanafa.org”.

This release clearly confirms my stance on why the integrity and compliance unit of GFA is dormant.

Why reveal it in the public domain rather than undertaking a secret investigations.

The GFA integrity and compliance unit needs an integrity training itself.
