All eyes are set on Madrid as 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League winners will be welcomed by defending champions and 14th times UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu as they face off again in the quarter-finals in two consecutive seasons and the third meeting in a row in the knockout stage of the competition with the winners of the last two ties going on to win the trophy. With both faltering in the league this term and losing by one-goal margins at the weekend, they’ll likely be throwing everything at winning Europe’s premier club competition to salvage their faltering seasons.

Madrid was stunned by Villarreal on Saturday night losing by 3 goals 2 which realistically ended their hopes of retaining their La Liga title so they will be fully focused on defending their record 14th UEFA Champions League crown. As they’ve now won their last four meetings with English clubs, including last year’s final against Liverpool, Madrid certainly shouldn’t fear Chelsea’s arrival.

However, Chelsea’s Premier League woes continued over the weekend, with caretaker manager Frank Lampard unable to get them back to winning ways against Wolves in his first game in charge in his second tenure. The Blues managed a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund to get this far was the high point of Graham Potter’s brief reign thus they can be expected to again raise their game as they go in search of a third UCL title.

With the Blues not losing an away game to a Spanish side on Spanish soil since March 2018, they are hopeful to grab an advantage scoreline back to the bridge. With the Blues missing the services of Aubameyang after being left out by former gaffer Graham Potter during the squad registration Madrid will also have to deal without the services of Ferland Mendy.
