After some impressive matches witnessed yesterday as the quarter-finals of the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League kicked off, we set to enjoy the next set tonight as two Italian giants clashed over the semis slot.
It’s the 2020/2021 Serie A winners against the 2021/2022 Serie A winners.
AC Milan chasing his 6th trophy of this competition against Napoli who is set to fight for his first-ever UCL trophy all at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro).
Milan is at this stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 11 years and will be eager to grab an all-important first-leg lead. However, Milan has just grabbed just one win in nine competitive home games against Serie A sides (thus, with 3 Draws and 5 Lose).
Despite that, Milan’s confidence will have been boosted by their remarkable 4-0 win away to league leaders Napoli earlier this month. They followed that up with a disappointing goalless home draw with Empoli on Saturday, but another clean sheet was a big positive and shutouts have very much been a theme of Milan’s UCL journey as they chase a fifth-straight clean sheet in the competition for the first time since the 2004/05 edition.
However, Napoli bounced back from their heavy loss to the hosts by defeating Lecce 2-1 over the weekend, which was also coincidentally the scoreline by which they won here against Milan earlier in the campaign. That success on Saturday maintained their 18-point lead atop of Serie A, so with the league title all but in the bag, the Blues can focus entirely on this tie which will be their first-ever UCL quarter-final. With Napoli’s away record very impressive after winning eight straight games on the road, scoring at least twice in each will however boost their confidence. The Blues will be without their talisman Victor Osimhen and Simeone Giovanni while AC Milan will also lose the services of Ibrahimovic and Kalulu.
