AFCON2021: Morocco, Gabon qualify to knockout stage as Ghana exit tournament.

Former Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan has advised players to develop their mentality ahead of matches but not depending so much on tactics.

The 2010 BBC African footballer of the year, speaking as a pundit on Supersport for AFCON 2021 said
“I think the coaches are there to guide you, give you the basics. The coach does his formation, teaches you the basics but I think 70% will come from the player’s mentality going into the game”.

“When you are going into a game, sometimes tactics don’t even count, sometimes you just go there, am going to beat you, whether I have to punch your face to beat you, I have to do it”

“Tactics count, the coach will teach you the basics but it’s all about the player’s mentality” he reiterated.

Already, Gyan has vilified Black Stars players’ attitude following their exit at the Africa cup of nations in Cameroon.

I’m devastated. I’m shocked. You can’t win a game with this kind of attitude. I saw the real Ghana when we went down to ten men,” the 36-year-old said. he told Supersport tv.

“We didn’t have a sense of urgency throughout the tournament. Why do you only push when you have ten men instead of 11 men? We didn’t play with determination. We didn’t play with any ambition. We’ve lost, we’re going home.”

“Everyone in Ghana will be disappointed. We didn’t create many chances and we’re going home. I’m very disappointed we’re going home. We didn’t see Ghana we know today.” he concluded.
