Calls up of local players to the national team (Black Stars) has been the bone of contention as most people believe the local players need to be given that quota as they hope to encourage them to do well in their respective teams.

Bank roller and President of the Ghanaian-based club, Bechem United Kingsley Owusu Achua have also advocated that the local-based players must be given the chance to feature in the Black Stars.

In an interview with Accra-based station Angel FM, Mr Achau asserted that handing call-ups to local players can help prevent the mass departure of players from the domestic league.

“I think the home-based players are not that bad. For me, if we are inviting 24 players, I suggest the technical team select the best four players in the league, and I believe that will help us in so many ways. It can prevent the mass departure of players from the local scene”- he said.

He added that if we employ this method, most players won’t rush to leave the country as their aim of playing for the national team will be fulfilled.

“Our local players won’t be in a rush to leave the league when they are given the chance to play for the national team. The 4 slots won’t cause any problem, players leave the league because they do not get the chance to play for the senior national team, but we should also ask why they are being chased to play for Ghana after a few months abroad, what is the magic? He quizzed.
