Kumasi Asante Kotoko has trailed to Algerian counterparts ES Setif in CAF confederation cup playoff at the Accra sports stadium.
The porcupine warriors showed signs of seriousness in the first half but keeping composure upfront was questionable and eventually taking the game into recess without a goal from both sides.
The game proceeded in the second half with an end to end intensity from Asante Kotoko and Algerian giants ES Setif but inform striker Kwame Poku got the lead for the former in the 69th minute through an assist from skipper Emmanuel Gyamfi.
Five minutes later, super-sub Mohammed Amoura who came on for Malian striker Tarik Troure responded with the superb header for ES Setif.
Youngster Ahmed Kendouci powered the guests upfront through a close-range shot in the 80th minute.
Asante Kotoko fought hard for a crucial equalizer and eventually got a penalty through a handball in Setif’s final third but unfortunately, Guinean import Naby Keita squandered it.
Algerian giants ES Setif eventually triumphed at the expense of host Asante Kotoko by two goals to one.
The 2nd leg will come off on 21 February 2021 in Algeria and now the rhetorical question is, ” Can Kotoko qualify to the money zone of the 2020/21 CAF confederation cup at the expense of ES Setif”???
