Ghana Black Stars have proceeded to the Qatar 2022 Mundial African qualifying playoff after topping group G.
The 2010 world cup quarter-finalist started the qualification unconvincingly after winning by a lone goal against Ethiopia at Cape Coast sports stadium and trailing to South Africa by a lone goal at FNB stadium in Johannesburg under CK Akonnor.
Harsh critique from the majority of Ghanaians forced the GFA to sack CK Akunnor and replaced him with Serbian tactician, Milovan Radjevac on the recommendation of a three-member committee namely, Mark Addo, Randy Abbey and Alhaji Zida.
Milovan started with an encouraging double victory against Zimbabwe and a 1-1 stalemate with Ethiopia at Orlando stadium in South Africa.
The 67-year-old needed a win against South Africa in the last round of the qualifying to win the heart and trust of some few skeptics who gave zero chance to the Black Stars to qualify to the playoff.
At the Pre-match presser, coach Milovan was very confident of winning the crucial decider and he has delivered.
Skipper, Andre Morgan Ayew’s converted a 33rd mins spot-kick after Daniel Amartey was fouled by Rushine Stanley de Reuk in the opponent 18-yard box.
The four-time AFCON champions have secured qualification to the playoff after winning 4 matches, drawing 1 and a loss to top group G with 13 points.
The possible opponent’s Ghana can meet in the last round of the qualifiers Senegal, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt.
