South African football association has filed a protest asking CAF and FIFA to investigate Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye and his colleagues for awarding a dubious penalty to Ghana Black Stars which directly influenced Group G qualification to the world cup qualifying playoff.
The CEO of SAFA, Tangobe Mthlanthe has publicly stated that the Group G decider game between Ghana and South Africa was fixed to favour the former therefore they need a replay.
The gurus of South African football are not the only ones expressing their displeasure of officiating but ordinary South Africans also flooded various social media platforms with insults, curses on the Senegalese referee and therefore calling on their own, Dr Patrice Motsepe to use his power as the CAF President, to direct a replay.
Before the 2018 world cup in Russia, several African countries protested the dubious outcome of their respective world cup qualification matches and these were the rules;
Senegal filed a protest against Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey for awarding a dubious penalty to the South Africans in 2017.
FIFA ruled that there was a nonexistent handball against Kalidou Koulibally therefore the game will be replayed. Referee Joseph Lamptey was charged with match manipulation and eventually faced a life ban.
Ghana also filed a protest against South African referee Daniel Bernette for disallowing a clear Daniel Amartey goal as offside.
FIFA suspended the referee but the results stood.
Today, South Africans have lodged a protest to CAF and FIFA on suspicion of “match-fixing”.
Will the match be replayed, referees banned or dismissed of protest for no case?
Ghanaians are expecting their playoff opponent for qualification ahead of the 2022 mundial in Qatar but there is a keen interest in the alleged match-fixing protest.
