Ghanaian international, Richard Ofori has recorded his first defeat in the highly intensive “Soweto Derby” to rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB stadium in Johannesburg.

Orlando Pirates playing as guest to Kaizer Chiefs were desperate for a victory to keep their title hopes alive but eventually succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to their bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

The 100th Soweto Derby went into recess without a goal from both sides but a second half( 54th minute) wonder strike by Serbian forward Samir Nurkovic, assisted by Zambian international Larzarous Kambole decided the game in favour of the host, Kaizer Chiefs.

Black Stars first shot stopper, Richard Ofori played no part in the derby due to an injury but witnessed his first defeat in fourth Soweto derby as a Pirates player since joining the Bucanneers from fellow PSL side Maritzburg united FC in October 2020.

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Gavin Hunt reacting to the victory after fourth attempt said, “I think we’ve played much better at times this year and lost, and so football’s a funny game. We played far better in previous games, I think, and lost, and that’s how things work,” Hunt told the media.

“But the most important thing today is that we defended better. Our shape was better, we worked on it on the training ground and we were much more compact between the lines.

“We were much more disciplined today and far more patient, and that’s things we can only keep working on, on a daily basis.”
