With joining the attack, the defensive midfielder is good at it. He adds up in numbers whenever the Phobians are in the final third of the pitch with the quest of hitting the target.
Most of the time Ushau presence in the zone 14 of the opponent’s area makes 2020/2021 league champions more deadly in offensive zones but there’s one deficiency about the short midfielder which needs to be looked at
Whenever the 19 shirted players are given a pass from the defence to start the transition, he mostly struggles in his first control. In most cases, he loses the ball and it had to take his partner in midfield to cover up.
Teams that have noticed it usually start the defence from him by making an offensive midfielder press him. In most cases, the approach works to perfection.
A clear example of his first ball control error was seen when Hearts played against Brekum Chelsea in match Week 10 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium. In that game, Ushau Abu couldn’t make a quick transition of the pass given him by James Sowenu from the defence. That error nearly led to a goal.
Whenever a defensive midfielder consistently makes such errors, he is forced to tackle and win the ball back which likely leads to committing fowls in areas that could get you booked and even punished. It has been very obvious that most of the fowls they concede in the midfield are caused by Abu in scenarios that could be avoided with just one quick pass or nice ball control to open spaces
With the kind of talent, Ushau has these little foxes shouldn’t destroy the whole. It will be better he picks up quickly to seal Afutu’s absence.
