Football in Ghana continues to go down the drain. However, most stakeholders and individuals keep hoping for change.
The search for new leaders in Ghana Football Association is on as the General election of the federation is set to come off on the 27th of September 2023 in Tamale with today being the last day for the submission of the nomination forms of the various portfolio from aspirants.
The former vice president of the Ghana Football Association Mr. George Afriyie has revealed his intention as he submitted his forms as he hopes to contest for the office of the presidency of the Ghana Football Association.
He believes his main objective is the rescue Ghana football, in other to get back on its feet again.
After submission, Mr Afriyie stated his reasons for contesting for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association.
“The first step is to rescue our football. If the sporting problems in our football are satisfying, if Ghana, our football clubs, club owners, and stakeholders are satisfied with our football, I George Afriyie don’t need to rescue Ghana football. The truth is that, for the past four years our football has been divided, the truth is our football is declining, for the first time in the history of our country where Heart of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko offered free gates to the public but yet it was not filled up.
If Ghana thinks that the performances of our national teams in recent times have improved in the past four years, then I don’t need to contest. If Ghanaians are satisfied with the league and I George Afriyie don’t need to contest. If there is transparency in the administration of our football, I don’t need to contest”- he said.
Most stakeholders believe in the change in our football running through the proposed administration of Mr George Afriyie.
