The ex-Germain International has announced his retirement from football at age 34.

The 2014 World Cup winner has officially hanged his boot after a decline in his sporting career since his exit from Arsenal in 2021 after joining Fenerbahçe on a free transfer.

However, in 2022 his contract with the club was terminated and he later signed for İstanbul Başakşehir.

In a statement, Ozil showed gratitude to the clubs and supporters for the years on the field.

“I want to thank Schalke, Werder, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Fenerbahçe and Basaksehir, all my friends are in football. It was an amazing Journey”
