Whilst fans and other major stakeholders of the GPL were assumed to have closed the chapter on the 2020/21 Ghana premier league season, it could not take long for the football fraternity to learn most matches of the just-ended season were fixed.

This alleged match-fixing and inglorious circumstances emanating from the league have prompted a swift investigation into the matter by the authorities of

Ghana football association.

These allegations are coming on the back of the matchday thirty-four Ghana premier league game between Ashantigold and Inter Allies. In which Ashantigold won the game by 7-0. After a while, information started trickling in the apparently, had been fixed thus the scoreline recorded.

Since then, the matter has led to the opening of a can full of worms about these unscrupulous activities by some mainstream football administrators and other unknown culprits.

This development by every stretch of the imagination is appalling and more so image tainting especially in the sense that, a few years ago, an investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas raided the football association with an investigative piece which brought about the mammoth rot in the football circles.

The investigative piece brought football in the country to a crumble and under that, there has been a serious normalization process, ventilation and purgative exercises all to rid football of the rot that had saturated the game.

Fast forward three years on, the game is back With structural and administrative policies coupled with the initiatives introduced by the new administration, it would appear the rot and the nefarious activities are still hanging on the neck of Ghana football. It may also be that the people who were into such are back on their perch nor they were not completely wiped out so to speak.

Throughout the season, the entirety of the football fraternity had to grapple with pockets of violence at certain match venues and so to have this betting and match-fixing recur would be another massive onslaught on the game which the consequences might be dire.

It’s in this regard that the football authorities would ought to vigorously ensure adequate investigations into the matter just so the individuals that are behind this are fished out, made to face the law with the appropriate sanctions meted out to them.

It’s worthwhile to learn the FA hasn’t taken this matter with a pinch of salt but have demonstrated the desire to follow the issues to the crust. We would want to see a tangible result realized after the dust has settled. Since there could be an atom of truth behind every rumour, all names and matches that have come up relating to the subject matter must be followed and investigated to unravel every teeny truth in thereof.

All hands must be on deck to canon this attack on Ghana football. This is our own let’s cherish our let’s rid Ghana football from the mouth of the demon called betting and fixing.
