“Justice Dzamefe in one of the sittings of the 2014 world cup commission of enquiry observed that too much of technical knowledge and lack of technical wisdom spoils cases”. This in all indications has been the case in the impasse that’s blighting a scarce talent for the past seven years which by now Ghana would have been benefiting hugely from.
On August 23rd 2014 in Nanjin China in a summer youth Olympics, a sixteen-year-old girl Martha Bissah then who without little indication, realized a buoyant Ghanaian dream of becoming the first athlete from Kwame Nkrumah’s to win a gold medal for the country.
On such a rare occasion and the first to flap the flag of Ghana in such a manner Martha’s accomplishment was greeted with immense euphoria, prompting recognition and attention from the presidency resulting in a financial gift and encouragement. Sadly, however, it’s that money that allegedly has become the gifted curse of Martha Bissah’s absence from everything athletics in this country following GAA’s suspension.
To this end, in seven years Martha has rather been counting the consequences of the gifted curse instead of what was on the horizon for her after winning that gold medal. Martha’s performance and accomplishment gave a sense of hope and belief and the gold perhaps the country had struck in the athlete but unfortunately we’re envisaging the opposite of some other would have mobilized all resources and arsenals nurture.
This begs the question of why since 2014 this matter has been left to fester with or without a little effort to intervene for the full potential of the athlete to be realized. In all conscience, a talent of what we have in Martha cannot and should not be watched without utilizing it to depth. Martha’s potential isn’t something that just left to wither under a scorching sun of a ban.
Isn’t it baffling that the girls Martha outclassed at Nanjing are making airwaves whilst the champion is wallowing under some cloak of dispute blighting her bright future and talent for no logical reason?
The time has come for those involved and the powers that be tackled this issue with the wisdom bestowed upon King Solomon through which the baby that was about to be sliced into two, met its divine grace. Martha must not be left for the executioner to cut her in two. Martha must meet her Solomon and it doesn’t matter who that person may be or come from. Saving the future of the poor infant whose future lies on that chopping is what’s paramount. The long deontological rule that has been the numerator to this matter ought to be smashed to allow wisdom to have its course.
I have learned Martha has petitioned the current minister of youth and sports Mustapha Usif to intervene just so the matter could be resolved to return her to the tracks to race for her beloved country.
It’s incumbent and the onus lies on the sector minister as a matter of urgency to step into the matter for its quickest resolution. Owing to the controversial circumstances surrounding the matter it will be essential for the minister to straddle through it with the utmost wisdom so as not to endanger either of the parties involved.
One thing I’m l certain about is when the minister can bring an antidote to the matter considering the gravity and duration, it will go down as one of his greatest legacies or addition to his credentials as a sports minister.
Martha’s talent and future must not go unutilized. Not under our watch else, we all will account for our failure one day watching on just like the story of those people who bypassed the man who had been attacked by armed robbers only to be considered by a good Samaritan. The parable of the gifted talents stipulates some were given one others multiple for all you know Martha was gifted one and that’s what she has demonstrated to the whole wide world.
Let’s do away with too much technical knowledge without the technical wisdom for the latter to prevail.
Ghana sports can work again.
