Asante Kotoko legend and 1978 African player of the year “Golden Boy” Abdul Razak has lamented on how the previous Kumasi Asante Kotoko management team used him to cover up their misappropriation of funds before His Majesty OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II.

It would be recalled that two-time African champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has gone ten(10) years without winning the elite Ghana premier league only for a certain club legend “Golden Boy” Abdul Razak to break that 10year jinx to win the Ghanaian top-flight for Kotoko as a coach in 2002/2003 season. Such a great display was worth celebrating but Sylvester Asare now Bantamahene led administration in 2003 rather decided to allegedly disgrace Golden Boy Abdul Razak before the club’s owner, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“After winning the 2003 Ghana premier league for Kotoko, Otumfuo summoned the then management team led by Sylvester Asare to make financial accounts of the club, and to my surprise, they told Otumfuo that monies were paid to influence matches for me as a coach which was false. His Majesty OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II didn’t succumb to their lies because he knew the kind of person I am. I decided to resign but Otumfuo intervened”. He told Kumasi-based Fox FM.

The 1978 best Afcon player reiterated that “my relationship with Kotoko has been sour since that sad incident in 2003 because I stand for the truth and I will never distance myself from the truth”. He added.

Touching on upcoming CAF champions league preliminary round game against Sudanese giants, Al Hilal, he said “Kotoko played against them 2 years ago and consistently a couple of their players are still active in the team while the majority of that particular Kotoko team 2years ago are gone, meaning Kotoko is rebuilding and that might affect them going into the game, but recalling back Osman Ibrahim from the loan is good, I trained him personally when he was at Liberty professionals, King Faisal and during the covid-19 lockdown, I know his qualities so do not surprise of his form currently”.

He earned the accolade “Golden boy” from legendary commentator Harry Thompson of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in the 1978 African cup of nations held in Ghana.
