On the Sunday special of week two of the Ghana Premier League, Karela United finally returned home to Ayinase and secured their first victory of the season after two years of playing away in Tarkwa.
The Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park which was undergoing renovation was commissioned with a short ceremony right before the game. Main sponsors of the Nzema based side, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) made a commitment of 100,000 USD to the club for every year for four years after they took over the cost of the renovation. The club also honored the meKarelamory of the late club who passed away last year. Karela sort to mark this day with a memorable game and did exactly that. On their “homecoming”, they played host to the capital-based Inter Allies and won the game by a lone goal. The talisman of the team, Diawise Taylor scored from the spot in the 74th minute to hand victory to the home side.
In other interesting encounters, Asante Kotoko made a rather long trip to Berekum to face Berekum Chelsea, a club that they’ve made very few good memories from. Their foes hosted them at the Golden city park, whose pitch didn’t seem so golden and were the major talking point of the encounter. Kotoko scored early in the first half after a quick counter account from the defense. New boy Emmanuel Keyeke pounced on the chance to give the porcupines the lead in the 18th minute. Chelsea left it very late to deny the visitor’s victory after they made good use of a free-kick at the edge of the Kotoko penalty box. Prodigal poster boy, Emmanuel Clottey, marked his return to his mother club, with a sensational shot from the free-kick spot to secure a point for Chelsea.
Dreams FC played hosts to Medeama. Unsurprisingly, the Believers took the lead in the first half after a goal by new poster boy, Joseph Esso in the 16th minute. Medeama’s persistence paid off deep into the second half when Asamoah G.K got them the equalizer. The Believers, however, were awarded a penalty in the final minute of regulation time and Issah made the most of it to put his team back in the lead. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Dreams FC.
Liberty Professionals also left it late to snatch a point away in Elmina after playing a 1 all drawn game against Elmina Sharks. Goals came from Bernard Tweneboah for Sharks and Karikari for Liberty Professionals.
King Faisal also managed impressive results against gains, Aduana Stars as they hosted the Dormaa based side. Aduana Stars opened the scoring in the 41st minute through their star striker, Yahaya Mohammed as Frimpong equalized for King Faisal in the 70th minute. Only King Faisal knows what precious this point can prove to be.
The other remaining game of the match week 2 is between Hearts of Oak and Ashanti Gold.
