Kumasi Asante Kotoko locked horns with WAFA in match day 10 of 2021/22 Ghana premier league on a boxing day at the Baba Yara sports stadium.

The Porcupine warriors were without their Skipper, Abdul Ganiu due to cards accumulation but was replaced by Mubarik Yussif who partnered Andrews Appau at center back. Richard Boadu “Agadas” returned to the starting XI after serving his suspension.

Wafa head coach, Hamdan Zaragoza Guillermo made two changes to the starting XI, Kwadwo Osei Bonsu replaced Boliver Sarfo Owusu in post and Derrick Mensah Antwi got the nod ahead of Razak Simpson.

Though an end to end stuff was witnessed in the first half but the Porcupine Warriors were superior upfront to the academy lads but failed to connect a goal.

Referee Benjamin K Sefah awarded a controversial penalty against the visitors after Frank Thiery Etouga Mbella was fouled by Goalkeeper Kwadwo Osei Bonsu in the 25th minute.

After consultation with the assistant line 2, the center referee rescinded that penalty decision which generated an intensive misunderstanding between the players.

The game went to recess without a goal from both sides.

Coach Prosper Nartey Ogum made two quick changes after the break, Augustine Agyapong and Charles Owusu replaced Fabio Gama and Andrews Appau respectively.

The 23 time Ghanaian champions took the lead in the 59th minute through a rebound shot by midfielder, Richmond Lamptey which eventually won the day for the Ghanaian giants.

Asante Kotoko have a crunch encounter with Aduana Stars at Nana Agyemang Badu Park on Saturday, January 1 2022 while WAFA play host to Elmina Sharks on Sunday, January 2nd 2022.
