Giussepe Meazza is to be pulled down after 96 years of existence. A decision taken by the Mayor of Milan Giussepe Sala and accepted by the two Milan Clubs.

The San Siro Stadium which is the original name of the stadium and later renamed after the Italian football legend Giussepe Meazza who played for both clubs.

Piero Pirelli who was the club President for AC Milan in 1925 made an initiative to build the stadium for AC Milan to help them move from Viale Lombardia, their initial home ground.

The 35,000 capacity stadium as at that time was completed in the space of 13 months. It started in the month of August 1925 and was completed in September 1926.

The Stadium was bought by the Milan Municipal in 1935 to undergo expansion of the stadium. The stadium was later expanded to 55,000 and has seen several renovations till date. The ownership of the stadium by the municipality allowed AC Milan’s rivals Inter Milan to have access to use the stadium.

The new stadium which has been design by Populus will pay host of about 85,000 football fans at a sitting. As a popular adage goes that whatever has a beginning has an end, so as the end of the San Siro has to go for the birth of the Cathedral.
