It’s 92 days to the kickstart of the 34th edition of the Total Energies African Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
With 24 teams already booking their place after the qualification round of play from June last year (2022) through to September this year (2023). With 142 games experienced recording a total of 345 goals with Nigerian striker Victor Oshimen coming up as the top gaol striker all was set for Abidjan as the draw for the tournament was on.
With 6 stadiums hosting this tournament in 5 major Cities (Abidjan, Bouake, Korhogo, Yamoussoukro, and San- Pedro).
This year’s competition does not see any debutance, all 34 teams were hoping to grab the trophy, with Senegal being the defending Champions and Egypt being the most successful country in the tournament.
Ghana was however paired up against the 2010 finalist in Angola Egypt alongside Cape Verde and Mozambique as they hope to chase their 5th trophy since 1982.
The tournament however returned to Cote D’Ivod’Ivoirer 39 years since 1984 with just 18 teams. With an amazing display of culture and infrastructure and the celebration of Ivorian Legend Lauran Pokou who scored 14 goals in 2 AFCON tournaments, Pokou is the official name of the football.
The tournament comes off on the 15th of January 2024 through to the 11th of February 2024
