FIFA, the world football’s governing body, has released new details about its planned overhaul of the Club World Cup
The new format will launch in July 2025 and expand the competition to 32 teams, divided in eight groups.
- AFC (Asia): 4 teams
- CAF (Africa): 4 teams
- Concacaf (North and Central America): 4 teams
- CONMEBOL (South America): 6 teams
- UEFA (Europe): 12 teams
- OFC (Oceania): 1 team
- Host nation: 1 team
This new format will consist of 12 teams from Europe, winners of the UEFA Champions League from 2021 to 2024 and other 8 European teams will be filled by their coefficient rankings.
FIFA wants to use performance in the UEFA Champions League as the way to select the majority of the European clubs in the controversial revamped version of the Club World Cup.
