It might not be a perfect representation of the season as a result of so many postponed matches and coronavirus cases among teams and camps, but this is how the league table shapes up heading into the New Year.

Manchester City ends the year top of the Premier League table haven played 20 matches in which they have won 16-more than any other side in the league. Drawn 2 and lost 2 matches with a 50 points haul.

8 points behind the defending Champions are the Champions of Europe Chelsea having played a game more than Liverpool, the Blues jump up above the Reds. 2nd on 42 points (won 12, drawn 6 and lost 2).

A game short, the Reds sit 3rd a point behind Chelsea. 41 points and a game in hand puts the second spot race in the balance. 20 games, 12 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses is how Klopp’s men end the year.

The top 3 spots might already have been decided but the race for 4th and last spot for a place in next year’s UEFA Champions League is very much on. After a poor start to the season, the Gunners turned things around, climbing up the table from 20th to 4th going on a 10 games unbeaten run in the process. Arteta’s men with a game in hand are 4th with 35 points after 19 games. 11 wins, 2 draws and 6 losses.

West Ham and Manchester United are 4 points behind the Gunners. The Hammers have played as much as Arsenal but United have a game in hand. West Ham with 9 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses out of 19 games while United finish the year with 9 wins, 4 draws and 5 losses out of 18 games.

Still hunting the 4th spot, direct North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs are 7th on 30 points with 2 games in hand. Victims of postponed matches, they have that as an advantage but as to whether or not that plays into their hands, time would tell. 9 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses, Spurs end the year with their eyes still firmly on the prize.
