RS Berkane has clinched the 2021/22 CAF Confederation cup title through a penalty shootout after 1-1 in epic 120 minutes of action against Orlando Pirates at Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria.

The Moroccans registered the first goal through a 96th minute spot kick by Youssouf El Fahli but 117th minute equalizer by Thembinkosi Lorch took the game to penalty shootout.

Happy Jele, T Mabasa, Monare and Richard Ofori scored their penalties for Pirates but Thembenkosi Lorch missed while Hamza, Zghoudi, Mokadem, Issoufou Dayo and Brahim scored all penalties for Berkane to end the finals in a 4-5 penalty shootout after 1-1 in extra time.

The Buccaneers quest to make history by winning the trophy for the first time ended in 2nd defeat after trailing 2-1 on aggregate to Etoile Du Sahel in 2015.

Berkane played their third overall finals in the history of the competition, lost to Zamalek SC in 2018-2019 and won in 2019-20 and 2021/22 against Pyramid Fc and Orlando Pirates respectively.

Congolese tactician, Florent Ibenge won his first CAF inter club final after losing CAF champions league and Confederation cup in 2014 and 2018 respectively as As Vita coach.
