Former Black Stars player, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has pointed out to foreign players of Ghanaian origin, wish to switch nationality to familiarize themselves with the terrain by taking part in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
Agyemang Badu, who played in the 2015 AFCON final indicated clearly to these foreign players that the 2022 Mundial shouldn’t be the only reason for switching nationality but the quest to defend the country in any tournament should be the ultimate priority.
The GFA is still in the documentation processes to switch the nationality of some foreign-based Ghanaian players ahead of Qatar 2022 world cup in November and notable names among them are Calum Hudson Odoi of Chelsea, Inaki Williams of Atletico Bilbao and Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal.
“Those who wouldn’t have any problem switching nationality must be ready for the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers so they get familiar with the terrain,” he told Joy Sports.
“It shouldn’t be that the player plays the world cup and that is it” he added.
The U20 world cup champion reiterated that these foreign-based Ghanaian players should be ready for any tournament but not be selective in national duties.
The Black stars were placed in group E of 2023 AFCON Qualifiers with Angola, Madagascar and the Central African Republic.
