Ghana Olympic committee President, Ben Nunoo Mensah has pointed out that, every money channeled to the national football teams, specifically the Black stars, worth it.
The GOC boss who doubles as Ghana weightlifting federation President backed his point with the level of the Black Stars on the international stage.
” Every penny we invest in the national football team, they deserve it. The Black stars hold some pedigree in the world and we need to invest to keep it at that level” He told Angel tv.
“That doesn’t justify the fact that we don’t spend in other national teams is wrong! because is not everyone who has an interest in football, some have also developed talent in running, boxing, weightlifting, badminton”. He added.
He stressed that “As a country, we need to set our priorities right, if we want to do all sports then we need to invest in all sports but if we want to do only football then we should all understand that will be unfair because there are a different crop of talents”
“If you go into the least finance sports, their budget is just about just 1℅ that is invested in the Black Stars and even that one, is difficult for us”
He reiterated that “the Black Stars is worth any penny invested but let’s also find money and give it to the so-called least finance sports”.
The Sports ministry with support from the Presidency, have budgeted for $25m for Afcon and world cup 2022 participation for the Black Stars.
