Russian ranked World number two channeled his inner Djokovic spirit to defeat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in a 5 set thriller. The game which was held at the Rod Laver Arena in Australia lasted a good 4 hours and 42minutes well past midnight in Melbourne.

The young Canadian seeded number 9 missed a huge opportunity to cause what would have been a huge upset in the 2020 Australian Open tournament. While the number 2 came into the match as the favorite to win, it wasn’t as easy as predicted. Daniel Medvedev triumphed by the finest of margins to book a place in the Semifinals against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The first set offered a glimpse of what was to come as it was evenly contested and had to be decided on a tiebreak which was won by the Canadian 6-7(4). The upset continued in the second set with Felix breaking his opponent and finishing the game in a much quicker and assertive fashion. The second set ended in a 6-3 score.

After a short pause as the roof was closed in response to rain, the third game continued and once more was decided with a tiebreak. The Russian got the better of the Canadian to register his first score of 7-6(2) for the night. The world’s number 2 exerted his dominance in the 4th and 5th set to close out the match. A 7-5 and 6-4 score in the fourth and fifth set respectively sent him into the Semi-finals of the Australian Open 2022.
