Players embrace their national team call ups not because of financial demand but see it as an honor and opportunity to set a positive legacy
Players embrace their national team call ups not because of financial demand but see it as an honor and opportunity to set a positive legacy ingeniously. Some players allegedly use key football agents and top football officials to have a way in their respective national teams.
It is no secret that, some media personalities use their respective channels to hype and eulogize players irrespective of their performances at club level, all in the name of national team call ups.
Reciting the national anthem loudly during an international friendly and tournament indicate the patriotism and honor to wear the respective national colors.
Ghana football is highly recognized due to scintillating and consistent top level football by the senior national team, Black Stars.
Notable names like CK Gyamfi, Aggrey Fynn, Mohammed Polo, Ibrahim Sunday, Golden boy Abdul Razak, Wilberforce Mfum, Winsdsor Kofi Abbrey, Osei Kofi, Emmanuel Armah Senegal, Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan et al wore the national colours with patriotism and honor and has played an immense role in maintaining the high standard of the Black Stars until today…
It baffles to witness our current football leadership doing business with the once revered Black Stars with favoritism and influence in player call ups.
Couple of Ghanaian football fanatics are attributing players like Mohammed Salisu of Southampton and Alfred Duncan of ACF Fiorentina refusal to honor national team call up’s to an alleged black power in camp but I attribute it to poor leadership and favoritism by the so called football people.
In Kurt Okraku’s interview with Asempa fm on some key players, notably Alfred Duncan’s absence in the 28 man squad for AFCON 2021
he said ” Alfred Duncan has had the opportunities to serve Ghana and he has not responded”.
“I don’t want to be picking on individual players but players who were ready to serve Ghana were selected to represent Ghana,” he added.
The Italian based midfielder wasn’t content with the above words by the GFA President and promptly tweeted:
Clearly, the once revered Black Stars is now unattractive to some key players owing to the parochial interest by some few football people to enrich their pockets.
