Nigeria came into this game high on confidence after a 1 nil victory over favorites to win the tournament Egypt. A 30th minute strike by Leicester City forward Iheanacho was enough to seal the win. A win for Nigeria qualifies them for the round of 16. Their opponent Sudan were hoping to build on a good draw with Guinea Bissau to place them in a good position to possibly qualify to the next round of the tournament.

Nigeria keep the same starting lineup that recorded that very convincing win over the Egyptians while Sudan make just one change, Mohamed Abdelrahman Yousif Yagoub is replaced by Musab Ahmed Alshareif Eisa for this encounter at the Stade Roumdé Adija in Garoua Cameroon.

A 3-1 victory over Sudan crowned Nigeria top of their group heading into the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations 2021. An early goal, the fastest of the tournament so far in the 3rd minute by Samuel Chukwueze set the ball rolling for the West Africans. Two goals in under a minute by Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Simon respectively sealed the win for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Sudan were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, slotted home by Khedr Safour Daiyeen served as nothing but a consolation and also their first goal of the tournament. Sudan would have a keen eye on Guinea versus Egypt match.
