Senegal and Guinea from Group B have succeeded in progressing to the round of 16 of the tournament.

The lions of Teranaga topped with 5 points cruising through to the next stage. The Senegalese had quite a tough start but pulled through the courtesy of a late penalty goal by captain Sadio Mane to give Senegal a 1-0 victory over Zimbabwe in their opening fixture.

Aliou Cisse’s team failed to continue their win as they shared the spoils with Guinea in their second and grabbed another draw against Malawi in their last group game.

Liverpool player Sadio Mane’s penalty goal is the only goal for the Senegalese’s side in the tournament so far.

Guinea had a victorious opening in a 1-0 win over Malawi. A goal by Sylla Issiaga seal their victory and drew with Senegal in their second game.

But they were held back from finishing top place in Group B by losing to Zimbabwe in a 2-1 scoreline in the final group match. Guinean captain Naby Keita scored the consolation goal, Musona and Mahachi were the goalscorers for the Zimbabwean side.

They finished second with 4 points.

Malawi claimed the third spot with 4 points same as Guinea but they fell short of qualification with an interior goal difference. They however could go through as one of the best third-placed teams pending the outcome of how the other groups finish.

Zimbabwe wrapped up their journey in the Afcon with 3 points.
