The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a series of disciplinary sanctions on Senegal following incidents that occurred during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Morocco.

Senegal, who defeated host nation Morocco 1-0 to win the AFCON 2025 title, were fined a total of US$750,000 after CAF ruled that the conduct of the team, technical staff, and supporters breached provisions of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

The final match was disrupted after Senegal protested what they described as unfair officiating. The team refused to return to the pitch in the second half, delaying the match for nearly 30 minutes before play eventually resumed.

Despite the disruption, Senegal went on to score the decisive goal in extra time to secure the title.

In a statement, CAF said the Disciplinary Board imposed sanctions on the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), as well as some players and officials, for violations of the CAF Disciplinary Code during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.

The sanctions against Senegal include a five-match suspension for Head Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw for unsporting conduct and bringing the game into disrepute. He was also fined US$100,000.

Players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards match officials.

CAF further fined the FSF US$300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters and another US$300,000 for the unsporting conduct of its players and technical staff. An additional US$15,000 fine was imposed for team misconduct after five Senegalese players received cautions during the match.

CAF said the sanctions were in line with its commitment to maintaining discipline, fair play, and integrity in African football.
