Player exodus in Ghana has been a norm of the day, with every player aiming to move out of the country to find greener pastures for himself/herself and the family.

This raises many questions as to why the best players in our various leagues aiming to leave the league, and the quality of the league keeps decreasing.

Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Competition, Mr. Wilson Arthur has revealed that the government can play a role by investing in the league in other to avoid player exodus.

According to Mr. Arthur, if the government takes up the salaries of our players with our leagues it will enable them to stay within the league.

“I agree the Ghana Football Association has a mandate to play, but the government also has its role. Look at Rwanda and Tanzania the government takes up the payment of salaries of the player, Cameroon are all using this method so they can keep players for a while” – he said.

He later said it was about time the government paid attention to the local players because they would end up playing for the nation after their development.

“It’s about time we pay attention to the football like a school project. In the same way, students are enrolled in universities, and footballers are also enrolled in clubs, so the government should support them because if I train the player he would end up playing for the nation, which helps the government apart from sponsoring the various national teams. It’s not right. “- he added.
